At the beginning of a grand adventure...

Grading began September 17. This is 6 hours in.

On July 14, 2022 (a 777 day), my husband and I closed on 17.68 acres of land in Lyerly, Georgia. We have since been doing a little work preparing the land for the house build. First, we extended the fence along the road so people couldn't drive around our gate and go hunting.

Next, we purchased the plans for our house. We got our plans from HousePlans.com and received the physical copies a few weeks ago.

I have never been SO EXCITED to look at a blueprint before. Incidentally, I was also a little nervous, because the house was going to become real. We were really doing this. This wasn't a dream. Oh, you'd think buying the land would drive it home, but no. For me it was looking at the blueprints for our new home...a home that will be ours in the next year.

It's a new way of life. A new start. Something completely Other to what I've known before.

​Now we've hired a guy with a dozer to clear the weeds and prepare several areas. In the above photo, the large dirt clearing is the house site and backyard. At the bottom left of the photo is the location for the greenhouse and outbuildings. This still needs to be cleared and graded, and our guy has 10 hours left on the job to do that and other tasks.
